DJ Toews, Student Math Teacher

Daniel Toews II, or DJ as known to many, has joined CVA as our fall semester math student teacher, under Mr. Burton in the high school. In December he will graduate from Union College with a BS in Mathematics Education. DJ is from the Central Valley in California, where his family grows oranges and grapefruit. He calls the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California as the greatest place for backpacking and hiking; and has yet to find a mountain in Nebraska that he would consider more than a foothill.

• What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?  watch your own nose; don't worry about what others are or aren't doing

• Complete this sentence- If I could invent a holiday, it would definitely involve: everyone walking backwards for a day and talking like Yoda

• My favorite word in the English language is: combustion (many cool uses from campfires to fast cars)

• What's the most inspiring part of your job? seeing a student do well in math that started out the year thinking they were going to fail

• If I was a superhero, my superpower would be: the ability to survive in space unaided by things such as oxygen tanks or special suits

• If you were a pasta shape, what would you be and why? the spiral ones that are kind of like a spring, because those taste the best

• What is the most important thing you learned in High School? how to start changing from a child to an adult in my responsibilities
