College View Academy

Cultivating hearts and minds; harvesting character.

Taking a breath is something we do every moment of every day so we don’t usually need to be reminded to breathe.  However, this year at College View Academy we want to consciously think about breathing.  Not so much in the moment by moment necessity of physical existence, but in the reflection of our need for God’s presence and Spirit in our daily lives.  In Genesis (2:7) we read where God formed man “from the dust of the ground” and when He breathed into Adam’s nostrils, it was then that he became a living being.  From that time forward we have been dependent upon God for the very breath we take each moment.  God, in His wisdom, made it so that we don’t have to think about breathing.  In fact, it is so natural that we have to concentrate and work in order to hold our breath.  And when our bodies recognize that we are in need of more oxygen it will fight to breathe and gain that much needed commodity.

Breathe is our school wide theme for the school year.  But we are not focusing on our physical breathing but rather our spiritual breathing.  In John 20:21-22 we read of how Jesus imparted the Holy Spirit to His disciples, “Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’ And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’.”  We want breathing God’s Spirit to be as natural and automatic as breathing oxygen.  We want God to live in us and be revealed through us every day.  Please pray for that outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives and on our campus.
